“Rollercoaster harvests” are becoming the new normal – according to new study
A new global study from the University of British Columbia warns that climate change is making harvests far less predictable. Hotter, drier conditions are leading to much greater year-to-year variation in how much food farmers can grow, with bumper crops one year and severe shortfalls the next.
That kind of volatility isn’t a good thing. Even if some years bring higher yields, the unpredictable losses in others can destabilise food supplies, drive up prices, and threaten food security around the world.
At Fischer Farms, we believe the world needs a more reliable way to grow food. And that’s why we are investing in a different model of food production: one that isn’t at the mercy of the weather.
Our climate-controlled smart grow systems create fresh produce 365 days a year, with zero pesticides and up to 95% less water, insulating food production from the climate shocks that are becoming all too common.
It’s a food system designed for a changing climate: stable, sustainable, and resilient.
