Celebrating Women in Agri-Tech: A Conversation with Fischer Farms’ QA Lead

As we mark International Women’s Day 2025, we are shining spotlight on our very own Jurgita Popieriene whose work in food safety, quality, and innovation has been pivotal for Fischer Farms’ growth. Here, she shares her story as a leading woman in agritech.

How did you get into agri-tech?

“Most of my career has centered around food and food safety. My journey began as a café administrator, ensuring high standards for food quality. From there, I transitioned into food manufacturing, where I honed my expertise in food safety, authenticity, and legality. My technical team managed everything from microbial testing and environmental standards to product traceability and complaint administration.

“In September 2024, I joined Fischer Farms as the Quality Assurance (QA) Lead, a position that allows me to apply my experience in food safety to a cutting-edge, innovative agri-tech business. I was thrilled to become part of Fischer Farms’ vision and support their mission to ensure safe, high-quality food production.

A Day in the Life at Fischer Farms

“A typical day begins with a site meeting, where the team discusses progress updates, daily plans, and areas for improvement. Throughout the day, we focus on product and environmental microbial testing, monitoring product quality.  Our commitment to traceability and constant monitoring ensures that every product harvested and packed meets agreed specifications.

“My role is about more than just ensuring the safety of our products. It’s about implementing the Farm’s Quality Manual System, training staff, conducting internal audits, and working across departments to enhance product quality. I also review customer feedback and support trials to refine our processes and improve product quality further.

What Motivated You to Join Fischer Farms?

“The primary motivation was Fischer Farms’ commitment to innovation and its forward-thinking vision for the future of food production. The company’s emphasis on responsibility, sustainability, and forward-thinking solutions made it an exciting opportunity to apply my knowledge and contribute to something impactful.

A Proud Achievement

“As a team, we have achieved many milestones over the years, but on a personal level, I’m extremely proud to have recently secured my certification as a BRCGS Internal Auditor. Fischer Farms supported me in attaining this certification, and the knowledge I’ve gained will only improve our quality standards. It will enable me to conduct qualitative internal audits, implement improvements, and continue ensuring that Fischer Farms’ products meet the highest levels of safety and quality.

What Do You Love Most About Working at Fischer Farms?

“What stands out to me most is the company’s commitment to innovation. The collaborative and inclusive environment makes it easy to contribute meaningfully to projects that have a real impact.

The company also fosters continuous growth. The leadership team provides regular feedback and mentorship, ensuring that I have the support I need to achieve my career goals. The culture of open communication encourages me to take on new challenges, which has been key to my professional development.
