Vertical Farming pioneers Fischer Farms receives TSG certification for Watercress
Fischer Farms, the firm behind one of the world’s largest vertical farms, has secured the Traditional Speciality Guarantee certification for its watercress, enabling it to expand its crop production and commercial supply.
Awarded by Norfolk County Council, the scheme protects food products and guarantees quality, with accreditation only granted to products that meet a strict set of growing and quality criteria.
Jon Cummings, Commercial Director of Fischer Farms said: “It’s a real testament to the growing power of vertical farming that we’re able to achieve TSG certification for our watercress, building on our range which already includes basil, chives and pea shoots.
“Grown in a stacked, biosecure, climate-controlled and fully automated system, our technology-led farm in Norwich has the capacity to provide salad yields 250 times greater than conventional farms, all grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or insecticides.
“Given the challenges facing traditional farming, and climate change putting food security under increasing threat, vertical farming can ensure we can harvest consistently high-quality produce 365 days a year.”
