How we grow

The indoor farming process

Fischer Farms uses Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) to grow crops vertically in a biosecure, climate-controlled facility. Stacked growing systems and energy-efficient LED lighting allow us to precisely control conditions and produce consistent, high-quality crops all year round.

Through data-driven automation, we optimise light, nutrients, and water to achieve frequent harvests with minimal manual input. This approach uses less water and land, eliminates chemical use, and provides a reliable, sustainable supply of fresh produce independent of weather conditions.

Our UK farms

01

R&D farm

Located in Burton-on-Trent, our R&D farm provides 3,200 m² of vertically stacked growing space. The facility uses a fully automated, bio-secure, climate-controlled system to produce short-leaf crops such as rocket. It also functions as our innovation and R&D hub, supporting continuous improvement across our farming operations.

Norfolk Super Farm

Our Norfolk Super Farm, based at The Food Enterprise Park in Norwich, is one of the world’s largest vertical farms. Set across a 4-acre site, it houses 25,000 m² of vertically stacked growing space, enabling high-volume, consistent production to supply retailers and food service partners year-round.

Fischer Farms Technology

Building on over a decade of experience, Fischer Farms Technology brings together deep expertise and real-world learnings from all our farms to deliver flexible, scalable growing solutions that adapt to your needs. Fischer Farms are mobile, configurable indoor growing systems that give growers complete control over their environment—independent of climate, season, or location—allowing operations to start small and expand at their own pace by adding identical modules. Crops move easily through different production stages, while adjustable shelving and configurable layouts support a wide range of crop types and growth cycles, simplifying workflows, streamlining operations, and ensuring hygiene, consistency, and efficiency at every stage of production.

Benefits of indoor farming

01

Locally grown

Our delicious fresh produce is grown right here in the UK, 365-days-a-year to minimise food miles and build UK food security and maximising quality and freshness. Locally grown means traceable, transparent food sourcing you can trust.

Consistently High-Quality Produce

Vertically farmed in bio-secure facilities, our crops are grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or insecticides. Producing our delicious fruits and vegetables in our innovative facility means we can harvest consistently high-quality produce all year round.

Minimises Environmental Impact

Our revolutionary system maximises space, producing significantly more harvests per year than field-grown. Plus, our ‘farm to fork’ times are considerably shorter than imported crops.

Reduce Food Waste

Grown in a bio-secure facility, our crops do not need to be washed, which retains nutrients and extends the shelf-life by as much as a week.
